Beaches in Greece

Although it may not be the first goal of a visitor, one cannot deny that Athens Greece can be a wonderful place to shop. When combined, shopping and eating out in Athens gives you a thoroughly enjoyable shopping experience

Travelling to Greece and the beautiful Greek islands offers visitors many attractions. One of the most popular and main attraction of Greece is visiting the beaches. The appeal for sun and sand is the main reason for leading visitors towards the breathtaking views of the Greek coast. We would suggest that the best time to visit Greece and take advantage of its beaches is between June and October. Beaches in Greece however, are not all the same and so choosing the right type of beach is an important decision to make, as each is different and will offers you a different experience. On one end of the scale you may find that some of the beaches you may come across will be very well organised and will offer you much in terms of luxuries. You will be amazed by the beautiful long, white soft sandy beaches and clear turquoise waters as well as the amenities on offer. On the other end of the scale you may wish to find isolated and secludes beaches in Greece. With interesting covers to explore and breathtaking landscape, these smaller ‘private’ beaches can sometimes be surrounded by green forests or large rough cliffs.

The variety in beaches is immense, but this will allow you to find the beach most suited to you and your family’s unique requirements. The good news is that there are still many undiscovered beaches in Greece and the Greek islands; this only adds to the uniqueness and charm, making you vacation to Greece more enjoyable and individual.

For those who want to enjoy the sun sea and sand in luxury, there are plenty of beaches in Greece that cater for this. There are many private beaches that function all around the Greek coast. These luxurious well organised beaches offer facilities such as changing cabins, cafes, toilets and showers. Some may also provide water sports activities such as pool slides and jet skiing. These beaches are perfect for a relaxing holiday to Greece, catering for both adults and children.

At some point in your holiday to Greece, you may find yourself travelling to Athens. There are several beaches in Athens Riviera, some of the more popular Athens beaches for visitors are in Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza, Nea Makri, Crysi Akti (Golden Coast ), Lagonissi, Kavouri and Alimos. Langonissi offers an immaculate beach with beautiful views and luxuries nearby such as restaurants and changing cabins. In most cases you may need to pay a small entrance fee to many of these beaches; this is very important as it helps in maintaining the beaches to their original beauty.

Travelling to the Greek islands and visiting the beautiful beaches which surround you, you will find yourself surrounded by visitors, especially in the more popular beaches during the hot summer months. You will especially find that there are many bars and clubs open around the more popular ‘tourist’ beach areas. We would recommend that you visit the public beaches in Athens Vouliagmeni and Varkiza and walk down away from the noise and the crowd towards coves and small isolated pebble beaches. The natural beauty of a more secluded spot of your own ‘private beach’ may be more appealing for those who wish to stay away from overcrowded spots.

For more diverse terrain and a more individual experience, we recommend that you visit the beaches in the Greek Islands. If you want to visit a beach as if it were a picture on a postcard, somewhere that is unspoilt, green, large waves, and surrounded by mountains, the Myrtos beach (Ionian) ticks all these requirements. The Palm Beach (Crete) offers ‘paradise’ on earth with its mellow Caribbean feel, its golden sand and surrounded by a palm grove. For a beach with a clubbing venue, the active visitor who wishes to Jet Ski, play beach volleyball during the day and have the energy to party through the night, we suggest the Paradise beach (Cyclades)

With so many different types of beaches in Greece offering unique experiences, it is difficult for us to suggest which is the ‘best beach’ or listing the ‘best’ ones as this all depends on your own personal preference. The only thing which we would recommend is going to a beach that has been awarded the European Blue Flag, this means they are not only clean, but also have required facilities. Greece prides itself in having far more than most other destinations, so you will not be disappointed. Overall, with so many coastlines, it would be very difficult for you to not find a beach that offers you the best experience, making your Greece vacation a special one.
